Toulon lose 6-20 against Lyon at the Stade Mayol!

Rugby Club Toulonnais lost their first home game of the season against Lyon 6-20, last Saturday.
Toulon wished to start their first home game of the season, in front of their supporters, in the best possible way. Both teams struggled during the first twenty minutes, as defending was the priority, but Toulon successively lost two of their players: Rhys Webb picked up a leg injury and Louis Carbonel suffered a heavy shock. Substitutes were thus brought in.
The first points of the game were scored after thirty minutes, as Mamuka Gorgodze was penalized for a foul on a Lyon player and Jean-Marc Doussain converted the penalty (0-3).
Toulon responded and then had most of the possession. Their efforts were rewarded when they were given a penalty after Ivaldi had prevented the Toulon players from getting the ball. Anthony Belleau converted it and levelled the score just before half-time (3-3).
In the second half, our men in red and black were given another penalty after getting the upper hand in a scrum. Belleau converted it from 40 metres and gave Toulon the advantage (6-3).
At the 54th minute, after a kick to touch, Cretin caught the ball and cleared it quickly. Clément Ric was in a good position in the interval and went to score the game’s first try (6-10).
The Toulon players responded and kept the ball, but Lyon showed solid defending. Ngatai pressured Bryce Heem into losing the ball and Pierre-Louis Barassi, the young U20 world champion, then scored the second try of the game (6-20).
The home team gave all they had in the last ten minutes: Facundo Isa and Romain Taofifenua tried to pierce through the Lyon backline, but their attempts were not rewarded.
The game was quite a sloppy one, but Lyon scrambled through to take their third victory in as many games. Toulon lacked realism when they were dominant and lost their first home game of the season. They now face Racing 92 for another home game, next Sunday.
