Toulon lose 18-21 against Montpellier!

Rugby Club Toulonnais lost against Montpellier at the Stade Mayol, last Saturday, on Day 19 of the Top 14.
Toulon were looking for a third consecutive win on home ground and started the game well, as they had possession of the ball in their opponent’s side. A first try by Marcel Van der Merwe rewarded their efforts early in the game and Toulon were leading 5-0.
Just after the ball was kicked back into play, the home team decided to pass the ball in their own side. Filipo Nakosi found an opening and gave the ball to his brother Josua Tuisova, who dodged the Montpellier backline and gave the ball to Rhys Webb, who grounded the ball. Toulon were 12-0 after François Trinh-Duc converted the try.
Montpellier then had most of the possession at the end of the first half and, after a turnover, they passed the ball to the blind side and Vincent Martin scored the visiting team’s first try. 12-7 to Toulon and, then, 15-7, when François Trinh-Duc converted a penalty just before half-time.
The home team really suffered in the second half and struggled to play the way they had in the first. They were caught unawares by the Montpellier forwards, who powered through the backline and scored a try. Montpellier were back into the game, only trailing by one point.
A few minutes later, after the ball was grabbed by Facundo Isa, François Trinh-Duc converted another penalty to give Toulon a four-point advantage: 18-14.
Charles Ollivon, who made his return and was very influential in the game, then picked up a yellow card after committing too many fouls. On the following move, Montpellier player François Steyn chose to kick the ball and Henry Immelman, after a duel with JP Pietersen, handed it to centre Yvan Reilhac, who went on to score Montpellier’s third try of the game.
Just after the ball was kicked back into play, Toulon bounced back with a try by Louis Carbonel after a pass by Filipo Nakosi, but the video eventually ruled it out.
Montpellier thus won 18-21, showing much determination and commitment in the second half. Toulon will now travel to Lyon on Saturday, March 23rd.
