Toulon earn victory (45-17) and a bonus point against Bordeaux!

Rugby Club Toulonnais took a 45-17 victory and an additional bonus point against Bordeaux at the Stade Mayol, last Sunday, on day 23 of the Top 14.
Toulon had to bounce back on their home ground after the narrow defeat against Grenoble, two weeks before, but things did not unfold as planned. Bordeaux made a good start to the game and had most of the possession. Radrado pierced through the Toulon backline before he was stopped in the 22-metre zone. James then kicked the ball to Tamanivalu, who passed it to Alexandre Roumat for the game’s first try! 0-7 to Bordeaux.
Toulon then had most of the possession and Webb scraped through on the blind side, passing the ball behind his back to Julien Ory, who sent Filipo Nakosi into the in-goal area. 5-7.
A few minutes after the try, Rhys Webb found Mathieu Bastareaud, who scored Toulon’s second try between the posts. 12-7.
Toulon played all the balls and put up much rhythm into the game. At the 18th minute, Brian Alainu’uese pierced through the Bordeaux backline before finding Bastareaud, who also won his duel and passed the ball behind his back to Julien Ory, who grounded the ball to score his first ever try in the Top 14!
Just before half-time, Baptiste Serin scored three points for Bordeaux, who only trailed by seven points. 17-10.
In the second half, Bordeaux were down to fourteen men after a yellow card and they were immediately punished: the Toulon three-quarters played away and Belleau just had to make a long pass to Julian Savea, who scored Toulon’s fourth try.
Fifteen minutes from the end, Bordeaux bounced back and Connor was stopped in the 22-metre zone. The visiting team then played “pick and go” and Fijian prop Peni Ravai scored his team’s second try. 31-17.
After the siren had blown, Louis Carbonel quickly kicked a penalty and, near the ruck, Charles Ollivon was on the move to score Toulon’s seventh and last try of the day.
The home team won 45-17 and were rewarded for the game they created. Toulon now travel to La Rochelle, next Saturday (kick-off time: 8:45 p.m.).
