Toulon win 40-7 at home against Lyon and pick up a bonus point!

Rugby Club Toulonnais won 40-7 against Lyon, on Saturday, December 22nd, and picked up a bonus point.
Toulon desperately needed some points ahead of two perilous away games against Toulouse and Racing 92. At the very first minute, François Trinh-Duc tried to score a forty-yard penalty: the ball hit the bar and landed into the hands of Liam Messam, who then dived into the in-goal area to give Toulon the advantage! A few minutes later, after Raphaël Lakafia picked up the ball, Rhys Webb enabled Pietersen to pass the ball to Nakosi, who made the difference on his side and scored.
Lyon then had more possession, but the Toulon players defended very well and did not concede any points. At the 32nd minute, after Rhys Webb pierced through the backline, Tuisova scored Toulon’s third try of the game, synonymous with a bonus point. The home team was then leading 21-0.
Just before half-time, a penalty was kicked for a line-out and Rhys Webb jumped higher than everyone to pass the ball to Filipo Nakosi, who forced his way into the Lyon in-goal area. Toulon had a comfortable 28-0 lead.
Lyon dominated the early part of the second half but, at the 54th minute, Rhys Webb passed the ball to Filipo Nakosi, who scored his third try of the game. At the 72nd minute, Lyon eventually scored a try: after several moves, Nakaitaci handed the ball to Pierre-Louis Barassi. 33-7 for Toulon.
The home side picked up the ball when the game resumed and, five yards from the in-goal area, young player Simon Moretti made a wonderful pass to Daniel Ikpefan, who easily scored his team’s sixth and final try.
Toulon remain in tenth spot in the Top 14 table and edge closer to Montpellier. Our men in red and black will now play two away games against Toulouse (next Sunday) and Racing 92 (on January 5th).
