Toulon win against Pau (9-19) in the Top 14!

Rugby Club Toulonnais won their away game against Pau 9-19, last Saturday, on day 10 of the Top 14. Our players have made an excellent operation and overtaken their opponent in the Top 14 table.
After back-to-back victories in the Challenge Cup against Bayonne and Scarlets, Toulon played a Top 14 game before another European game, next week. The conditions were difficult and none of the two teams took any risk during the early minutes. Baptiste Serin and Samuel Marques respectively enabled their sides to remain in their own halves thanks to their kicks.
Toulon then had possession of the ball and showed solid defending, but they committed two fouls during the first fifteen minutes — an off-side and a high tackle —, enabling Antoine Hastoy to convert two penalties and give the home team the advantage. 6-0.
Toulon then resorted to ball possession and accurately occupied the field thanks to Baptiste Serin and Louis Carbonel! Pau were under pressure in their own half and it was their turn to commit fouls. Anthony Belleau thus scored three penalties and, at the 34th minute, Toulon were leading 6-9.
Two minutes before half-time, after the ball was carried forward, Carbonel passed it to Belleau, who pierced through the Pau backline, before giving the ball to Parisse, who scored his first try with his new team! 6-16 at half-time.
Our players firmly held on to their lead throughout the second half. In spite of the rain and a muddy pitch, they played a varied game with hardly any mistake, but could not add the final touch when they could have scored. Antoine Hastoy and Anthony Belleau respectively converted one more penalty in the second half.
Toulon thus earned a crucial victory (9-19) and they remain in the upper part of the Top 14 table, after ten games played. They now face London Irish at the Stade Mayol, next Saturday (December 7th), to confirm their top spot in their Challenge Cup group.
