Toulon win 34-17 against Brive at the Stade Mayol!

Rugby Club Toulonnais won their home game against Brive 34-17, last Saturday, on day 15 of the Top 14.
Following their defeat against Lyon, the players wanted to put up a strong performance. There were many interruptions during the first fifteen minutes and Toulon had control of the game, even though they were not in a position to score. Swan Rebbadj then caught the ball after a line-out and passed it on the right-hand side: the Toulon players outnumbered their opponents and Ikpefan scored the game’s first try. 7-0.
After Ramiro Moyano went forward from the centre, Anthony Meric passed the ball on the right-hand side again and Daniel Ikpefan powered through to score a second try! 14-0.
On the following move, the Brive players had possession and were given several penalties after numerous fouls by the home team: and, after thirty minutes, wing Pierre Tournebize went to score his team’s first try of the game. 14-7.
Both teams scored penalties before half-time and Toulon were thus leading 17-10.
Toulon coach Patrice Collazzo was inspired in his substitutions: the Toulon scrum kept going forward and the referee gave a penalty try, which was converted by Anthony Belleau. 24-10.
After sixty minutes, the Brive players were putting pressure on Toulon in their own half: Louis Carbonel struggled to clear the ball away and scrum-half Lobzhanidze scored his team’s second try!
On the following move, the ball was caught back by the home team and Louis Carbonel made up for his previous mistake, as he passed the ball to Eben Etzebeh, who powered through the Brive backline to score a third try. 34-17. Toulon then pushed for a fourth one, which would have meant a bonus point, to no avail, but still won against a solid Brive team.
They will now play a crucial away game against La Rochelle, before a home game against Stade Français.
