Toulon win 26-16 against Perpignan at the Stade Mayol

Our men in red and black won 26-16 against Perpignan, last Saturday, at the Stade Mayol, on day 9 of the Top 14!
Toulon desperately needed a victory and started the game in the best possible manner, as Xavier Chiocci scored a try as early as the 4th minute, after a maul was formed and the home team gained the upper hand.
Unfortunately, Perpignan grabbed the ball when the game restarted and made perfect use of the blindside to score a try. Toulon were assailed by doubt again and, after each side converted penalties, Perpignan were leading 16-13 at half-time.
Discontent was brewing in the Stade Mayol grandstands but, in the second half, Toulon were more aggressive in the rucks and played a more fluent game. At the 43rd minute, Trinh-Duc passed the ball to Savea, who breached the Perpignan backline after scraping through two tackles, then scoring his first ever try for his new team. Toulon were back in front (20-16) and, even though the second half was far from being perfect, they controlled the game and scored two additional penalties to secure a 26-16 win against the Catalonian players. This much-needed victory gives Toulon a breath of fresh air and puts them higher up in the Top 14 table, in 12th spot.
It is now time for international matches and Toulon will play their next game away, against Bordeaux-Bègles, on November 24th.
