Toulon suffer a heavy defeat (39-17) against Brive!

Last Saturday, Rugby Club Toulonnais lost 39-17 against Brive, on Day 5 of the Top 14.
Straight after kick-off, Facundo Isa lost the ball and Blanc passed it to Fijian player Kamikamica, who outflanked the backline and scored the first try of the game (7-0).
After Thomas Laranjneira scored a penalty at the 10th minute, our men in red and white had possession of the ball but, after a sloppy pass from Julien Heriteau to Dakuwaga, Brive wing Franck Romanet benefited from it and went on to score another try. After fifteen minutes, Brive were 17-0 up.
Toulon immediately bounced back and carried the ball, which enabled hooker Christopher Tolofua to power through and reach the in-goal area (17-7). Toulon, however, made too many mistakes during the first half. After thirty minutes, Laranjneira scored another penalty after an off-side decision by M. Cayre, the referee. 20-7 to Brive.
Toulon had a better spell at the end of the first half and, as the siren blew, Anthony Belleau kicked the ball to Daniel Ikpefan – who, unfortunately, could not grab it. They kept the momentum at the beginning of the second half and the backline made wonderful passes. Ikpefan concluded the counter-attack and Toulon came back within six points of Brive (20-14).
After this try, the home team had possession of the ball again and Toulon made too many mistakes inside their own half. Within twenty minutes, the referee gave three consecutive penalties for Brive, each of them converted by Thomas Laranjneira (29-14). After sixty minutes, Toulon were given a penalty after getting the upper hand on a scrum. Carbonel converted it from twenty-five metres (29-17).
Brive secured the win five minutes before the end of the game, as Jurand pierced through the Toulon backline and passed the ball to Thompson-Stringer, who went on to score a beautiful try. Brive eventually won 39-17 and Thomas Laranjneira scored 24 of the home team’s points. Toulon lacked discipline and could not bring a good result from their trip. They now face La Rochelle at the Stade Mayol, next Sunday!
