Mathieu Bastareaud: "We had the fighting spirit to bounce back"

The Toulon captain attended the post-game press conference after the 24-20 victory against Bath, at the Stade Mayol, on Day 3 of the European Champions Cup.
Mathieu, what are your thoughts on this game?
We knew it was going to be difficult and, today, we get a good result. It’s good for the team, the staff, the club and for the supporters, because things could have been difficult if we had not won today. We know the European Cup is quite another league, another rhythm, and the games are totally different. Bath are a team with players who know how to handle the ball, but we were able to keep our positions, except for a few missed tackles.
We made things difficult for ourselves, it seems…
Yes, we made things difficult for ourselves, we wasted a few balls and they scored tries and, looking at the players they have, we couldn’t give tries away. We really paid for our mistakes, but we had the fighting spirit to bounce back and that’s very good. We didn’t lose courage. We told ourselves we didn’t have the choice: we had to snatch the win, and it paid off.
What do you think about Anthony [Belleau’s] last-minute try?
There was something coming on this move and Anthony was very inspired. It’s great to have a player like him! He is young, he uses his instinct, he tries to do things and he succeeds! In this game, he was a kind of a “supersub”! It’s good for us and for him, because this came after the international test matches: this wasn’t an easy time for anyone, including him, and he can feel proud today.
