The main reactions after Clermont vs Toulon

Here are the main reactions of the Clermont and Toulon staff and players after the game at the Stade Marcel-Michelin, last Sunday, which Clermont won 21-16.
Fabien Galthié, Toulon manager: “We can have regrets, because we had a good start to the game. In the first half, we were leading, we had opportunities and we were well into the rhythm. It was clean, but perhaps we didn’t take advantage enough of our domination. But then, we lacked discipline (two players were booked at the 33rd and 39th minutes) and we were punished every time we did mistakes. We lacked accuracy in the second half and our playing was often erratic and faulty. That’s a shame.”
Mathieu Bastareaud, Toulon captain: “We are disappointed all the same. We could have done something, there was an opportunity for it, but we still pick up a bonus point. I was irritated by many things: we did silly mistakes, even stupid ones, because we were too committed. We really want to do well, but we end up losing our concentration. This is only the second game of the season: we’re going to work to correct those errors from the next game onwards.”
Franck Azéma, Clermont manager: “It was quite a confrontation, a very intense one. The Toulon players put us to the test and we are happy with the victory. We feel reassured and we showed we had character. We didn’t panic and we bounced back when we were trailing. Against such a team, it really feels good! We were a little tense in the early part of the game, but we didn’t fall apart. We took initiatives and we started our attacking moves from our side. Everything wasn’t perfect, though, and improvements still have to be made.”
Damien Chouly, Clermont captain: “It was a tough game, but we won it. We are happy with the result. From the outset, it was obvious Toulon would go for the win. We watched them play in the first twenty minutes instead of imposing our game. The backs were very aggressive but, then, we could grab the ball, keep on playing our way, as a team, and I think our fighting spirit enabled us to come back from behind, to force them into mistakes and to win the game. This season, every team will be expecting us: so, nothing will be simple.”
