The reactions after Toulon vs. Scarlets

Here are the main reactions of the RCT staff and players after the 31-20 victory over Scarlets, on Day 3 of the European Champions Cup.

Mike Ford, RCT manager: “I’m not relieved after this game – rather frustrated, in fact. We lost control of the game in the second half, but there were inspired moments, notably thanks to Bastareaud, Ma’a or Tao. We know we face a huge task away against Scarlets, but we’re going to enjoy our victory this evening. I don’t know how many points will be necessary to qualify, but the most important thing is to recover tomorrow and start again with a good training session on Tuesday.”

Guilhem Guirado, RCT hooker: “I’m happy about the five points we grab, but I’m not satisfied because we could have scored more points and we missed those opportunities. We show more and more self-demand and that’s normal. This evening, our occasional sloppiness wasn’t costly, but we know we can pay for this – notably in away games.”

Mamuka Gorgodze, RCT lock or flanker: “We had good feelings this evening. I have respect for the Scarlets team, but I felt we had the edge over them. Yet, only eleven points separate us. Perhaps we wanted to do things to perfection too much. Anyway, the way we moved forward was satisfactory, but our defence should have been better. If we keep on playing this way, we can expect good things. It was important to grab the bonus point and we did it.”

Jonathan Pélissié, RCT scrum-half: “It’s the same thing for all the teams: there are ups and downs, but we managed to take the bonus point and that’s what matters. If we lose the ball after keeping it for a long time, we find ourselves in danger, but we’ve developed a few automatic reflexes as well.”

Charles Ollivon, RCT flanker: “We had good moments, but a few blips as well. It’s hard to explain and we have to correct this. It was a true European Cup game, a high-level one, and we had to run much of the time. Scarlets will be prepared next week. It’s now up to us to respond and make up for our bad patches.”
