Communiqué concernant Mathieu Bastareaud

Alors que l’EPCR a lancé une enquête suite aux propos de Mathieu Bastareaud tenus à l’encontre d’un joueur de Benetton Rugby dimanche après-midi à Mayol lors du match de la 5^ème journée de Champions Cup et après que Mathieu Bastareaud se soit personnellement excusé en indiquant « je tiens à m’excuser de ma réaction aux insultes du joueur italien, j’ai mal répondu à sa provocation, j’en suis sincèrement navré pour les personnes que j’ai pu blesser », le Rugby Club Toulonnais tient à rappeler qu’il a toujours prôné et défendu les différences entre les individus et le respect de celles-ci.
Le RCT est persuadé que Mathieu a eu des propos malheureux consécutifs à un état d’énervement comme il peut y en avoir dans un match de rugby et qu’il n’est en aucun cas homophobe. Ce dérapage verbal ne doit pas permettre de jeter en pâture notre capitaine qui a toujours défendu la diversité entre les individus et le montre chaque jour dans un groupe de joueurs toulonnais hétéroclite.

EPCR have launched an investigation following the remarks made by Mathieu Bastareaud towards a Benetton Treviso player on Sunday afternoon at Mayol for the fifth round of the Champions Cup. Following the game, Mathieu Bastareaud apologised personnally by stating « I would like to apologise for reacting to being insulted by an italian player, I reacted badly to this provocation and I am extremely sorry if I have hurt people ».
Rugby Club Toulonnais would like to remind everyone that the Club has always advocated and defended differences between individuals and the respect of these differences. The RCT is convinced that Mathieu used these unfortunate comments whilst in a state of aggravation, as can happen regularly during a game of rugby and that he is not at all homophobic. This kind of language should not allow people to condemn our captain who has always defended the rich diversity between individuals and proves it every day within our heterogeneous group of players.
