The reactions after victory against Racing '92
Here are the main reactions after the 17-11 victory against Racing ’92, last Sunday, at the Stade Mayol.
Marc Dal Maso, RCT forwards coach: “It’s fine to start 2017 with a victory. The players played a good game, but it unfolded in quite a strange way in the first half, as many players – Taofifenua, Ollivon and Escande – picked up injuries. We couldn’t make any more changes, but the team answered the call and finished the game on a high note. We could have scored three or four tries and that’s a shame, because we were in a delicate position until the end. The game was a very intense one: we needed the win and Racing ’92 had come looking for points as well. In the end, we take four and they take none, that’s not so bad. Mathieu Bastareaud’s performance has to be highlighted, as he was absolutely AWESOME!”
Laurent Labit, Racing ’92 coach: “Let’s face it: after this game, we are feeling bitter, disappointed and frustrated. We had come to deliver the goods and we knew that would be difficult, because they would expect us, given the recent history between the two teams. In the end, we come back empty-handed and, logically, that’s quite a disappointment. I personally regret [Brice] Dulin was given a yellow card after the line-out which, actually, was the turning point in the game. It’s even more obvious when you look at the final score. I’m in favour of improving the rules and protecting the players, but it takes a very poor knowledge of rugby union to give a yellow card on this line-out and rule it was a deliberate foul on the part of Dulin.”
Pierre Bernard, RCT fly-half: “There was much rhythm and much intensity and I can tell you there were tough physical contacts, particularly in the early part of the game. A few players in our team were injured, but I think we played a top-level game tonight, as we didn’t crack under pressure and we stuck to the principles of our game. We score points and we end up winning, that’s the most important thing.”
